Commandment 2 Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image
In the second commandment, God tells the Israelite not to create idols for themselves. To the Israelite, idols were things made out of gold and other materials and then they worshiped those things. They even made a cow out of gold and worshiped it. We all struggle with idols even though we do not have images made of gold in our homes; the idols are the things we make more important than God in our lives. Sometimes the idols are not necessarily bad for example: playing games, our studies, our toys, favourite TV shows, favorite cereals, favorite sibling, friend, cousin etc. These things are all good, but when they become more important to us than following and obeying God, they become an idol.
What are those things you would not trade for anything? Who are those you will always choose to obey at the expense of obeying God? Ask God to help you to release all such and have Him be the one you love above others.
Prayer: Lord help me to love you above every other thing
