ZACCHEUS’ SEEKING HEART

TEXT: Luke 19:1-10

This week, we shall be looking at the account of Zacchaeus and drawing lessons on true repentance from his story. We shall use the bible text all week long and add other passages where necessary. The passage shows that Zacchaeus was the chief among tax collectors. Tax collectors were notorious for taking more from the people than what the government asked them to. Most of them were seen by other Jews, as sinners, as thieves. Zacchaeus was not just a tax collector, he was chief amongst them, meaning that other tax collectors reported to him or were under his command. He was also described as rich, yet he wanted to see Jesus. He wanted something His money could not afford. Perhaps he didn’t have peace, maybe he was tired of living the life of a thief, the life of a sinner, and was seeking Jesus to save him from the punishment sin would bring. He had a seeking heart – a heart that desired to meet Jesus, the Saviour.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that You will create a hunger for You inside of me. Let this hunger drive me to seek You all the days of my life.
