Heroes of Faith: Moses and the Red Sea
Text: Hebrews 11:23-29, Exodus 14:1-31.
Memory Verse: “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them no more again forever.” Exodus 14:13
Without a doubt; Moses was a real hero who led the Israelites out of Egyptian slavery rule into their promised land. Before Moses was born; the Israelites had been slaves in the land of Egypt. This was because the king of Egypt at that time had forgotten about Joseph and how he helped Egypt about 350 years ago. Now in captivity and living as slaves; the Israelites cried to God Exodus 2:23 and He sent them a deliverer in the person of Moses. After Moses was born, a decree was made to kill every Hebrew son under the age of two but thank God for Moses mother who hid him and gave him to an Egyptian princess who took care of him secretly. Though he grew up as an Egyptian prince; he decided to live as a Hebrew so he fled Egypt and settled in the land of Midian. One day while he was in the desert, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a burning bush and told him that he would have to go back to Egypt to deliver the people from their suffering Exodus 3:1-22.
After Moses had an encounter with God in the burning bush; he began his journey to Egypt to get the Israelites out of their slavery and to their promise land. Pharaoh was very stubborn and refused to let the children of Israel go so God stepped in and with different plagues made sure Pharaoh let the Israelites go. On their way out of Egypt; the Israelites got stuck between the red sea and the wilderness. When Pharaoh heard this God hardened his heart and made him chase the Israelites again so that he could capture them and make them slaves again. The Israelites got scared and started shouting at Moses when they heard that the Egyptians were on their way. They told Moses to call on his God to deliver them. Despite their lack of faith and insults, Moses never stopped believing that God will make a way for them. His undying faith was enough for God to save the Israelites; God spoke to Moses and told him to stretch his hand over the red sea. Moses obeyed and the red sea parted in two and there was a dry ground in the middle where the Israelites passed through. After they crossed the red sea; God told Moses to stretch his hand again over the sea for it to close up and destroy Pharaoh and his chariots that were following them. Moses did as he was told and the Israelites were safe from the Egyptians forever; his obedience to every instruction from God and his faith brought about Israel’s deliverance and freedom.
Moses was the meekest man on earth because of his patience in dealing with the stubborn Israelites and helping them successfully leave Egypt, cross the red sea and enter the promise land. We can undoubtedly say that this hero of faith will forever be remembered by generations to come!
