The Lord, my habitation
The Lord, my habitation
Psalms 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation.
During the World Wars, different warring countries built structures named bomb shelters where people could hide when there were air raids. These shelters were specially adapted to resist the impact and destruction of low and high-flying missiles from enemies. Many lives were preserved and some still live today to share the details of their preservation from their enemies’ incursions. There’s always an ongoing warfare against the believer, we have an enemy whose onslaught and devices are evolving and evermore fierce. He has the resources and a nick of time to perpetrate his antics against the righteous and he’s employing every available opportunity to perpetuate his Anti-Christ agenda. Thus, we must remain vigilant and ensure we are always insulated against his opposition and inglorious bombardments.
The Psalmist in the 91st chapter extols the intentional character of those qualified to be habitable for the Most High. Their consciousness of the person of God advises how they live. They do not allow anything or anyone to taint their heart to the displeasure and departure of the Spirit of God and maintain a reverential fear of God to the safe keeping of their souls in holiness- Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
However, despite this assurance for the righteous, many fall victim to the enemy’s antics through fear and wanton wandering away from the borders of grace. Fear is one of the main antics used by the enemy to create a false reality to distract bonafide benefactors of grace. We must guard against this and seek repose in the mercies of God- Isaiah 8:12-14 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary.
Making the Lord my habitation signifies that His presence is the most indisputable factor for life’s victory- 2 Chronicles 32:8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. His presence repels unrighteousness (Psalm 92:15), dispels fear (Isaiah 41:10), and is strong to deliver (2 Samuel 22:17-19). His presence carries His essence and His being. Are you a carrier of God’s presence?
