Samuel Anoints the Right King
TEXT: 1 Samuel 16:1-13.
When God sent Samuel to Jesse’s house, He didn’t tell him the name of the person to be anointed king. He did not also describe which of Jesse’s sons was His choice. He got there and as he called them to the sacrifice each of the seven sons at home passed before him and he almost anointed Eliab the firstborn because of his kingly stature.
God spoke to him immediately that He had refused Eliab. After him, all the other brothers passed by him and God still refused them. He could boldly ask Jesse for his eighth son since he heard God clearly that the person He had chosen was not there. Because He heard God clearly, he was able to make the right decision and he anointed the right person as king. Hearing God clearly will guide you to make the right decisions for your life, your family, and your nation.
Pray: Dear Lord, I want to make the right decisions every day so that my life will turn out right. Take away distractions and help me pay attention to you always, in Jesus’ name, amen.
