Prayer: a divine tool for divine provision
Prayer: a divine tool for divine provision
Text: John 14:12-14
KEY TEXT: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. JOHN 14:13 (KJV)
George Müller (1805 – 1898) was a Christian evangelist and the director of the Ashley Down Orphanage in Bristol England. He cared for over 10,000 orphans in his lifetime and provided educational opportunities for them.
The orphanage home which he started in 1836 is a standing proof of a prayer answering God. When there was not a morsel of food in the home, Müller prayed. Not a word did he say to those on the outside. He dealt with God alone, and the orphans, never went hungry.
Many times he received food from donors who are stranger to him even before he needed them; strengthening his faith with God. He prayed constantly that God touch the heart of people to give to his orphanage home.
In our text, Christ emphatically says that all those who believe in Him would do great work and that whatever they ask in His name, He shall do it. What a great privilege is this to the people of God. However, it is disheartening today to find those who are children of God, failing to ask the Messiah their daily bread, but go begging for crumbs before men.
In fact, some who are leaders who ought to seek the Lord in prayers like Müller did, seek various un-divine means, spending many times in different strategy meetings for raising funds; writing letters to lords who now lord over them, and ascribing the glory of Christ’s church to themselves.
Ah! Believers, let us do away with every human strength, and make our request constantly known to God in prayers, with faith taking all our problems unto Him, and abundantly will He provide for all our needs.
REFLECTION FOR THE DAY: Prayer is an honour to God, and honourably will He answer every request in Christ name.
