Our Light Affliction
Our Light Affliction
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”. II Corin. 4:17
One of the prerequisites to becoming like our Master is our light affliction. It is safe through this premise to say if our Christian journey has been free from troubles and affliction, if our pilgrimage had been that of ease, we need to take a stop and check if we really are on the path of life. The path of life which our dear Saviour- Christ Jesus walked, which the Apostles and the saints of old walked, had a mark of affliction, and it is in-fact a necessity in order to be pruned, humbled, and compelled to rely on the everlasting Arm for strength.
The Lord, while on earth told his disciples clearly that in the world, they need not pray against trouble, for it is included in the package of their call, “…ye shall have tribulation…” was the Lord’s prophecy about their calling. Ought not every Christian to expect similar fate? The challenges on the way often try our resolve and determination if we really mean the business of serving the Lord. It is through fire that gold is tried; soldiers are first on the battles before called victors and saints on earth are tried by tribulation. Our responsibility is to be like those who boldly, despite their affliction, say, “…we are not of them who draw back unto perdition”.
Our afflictions on earth are always accompanied by grace, the grace to bear them until we are partakers of His glory, the essence of which was for our glorification. The Lord knows our limits; the affliction we encounter or shall encounter is a light one and it is for our glorification. More to this is that it is a momentary affliction we shall bear while on earth we live. Shall we then, knowing fully well that at the azure above each saints shall testify how the glorious King helped us through our light affliction while on earth we live, shudder or grouse while on earth ours we bear? NO. The badge of affliction is a badge of honour when our King we see. Each soldier must wear his badge honourably!
