Lay Aside Every Weight
Lay Aside Every Weight
Text: Hebrews 12:1-2
Key Text: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1, KJV)
One paramount and essential thing for anyone engaged in a race is to ensure that they get rid of any impediments or things that will slow them down during the race.
We often see sprinters dressed in such a costume that allows free movement as this is essential for their success.
The Christian, at salvation, has been enlisted in a race for which many won’t be a short-distance race. One great pre-requisite for achieving success in the race is ensuring that any extra weight is gotten rid off as it will definitely distract or negatively impact the Christian race.
The word of God admonishes us to lay aside every weight, that is, everything that is not edifying to our spirit man must be laid aside. Such weight could be in different forms across the Christian race, but one notable thing is that just like extra physical weight carried by a sprinter will impede his race, so also will those things not adding value to our life, things shifting our attention away from God, things taking us away from God’s presence must be laid aside in order to have a successful and rewarding ending.
Reflection for The Day: Get rid of all the things negatively affecting your life and slowing down your pace in the race.
