Can We Be Holy At All?
Can We Be Holy At All?
1Peter 1:14-16.
“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
Holiness is a doctrine that often confuses many people and causes them either to be afraid or abandon themselves to unholy lifestyles. Every child of God must understand holiness. God is the Holy One and so children of God are called to holiness and are expected to be holy. God’s holiness is unfathomable and difficult for us as men and women to understand, So why would God demand that which is inaccessible? The holiness that the Bible speaks of is accessible. The opposite of holiness is “common”. Anything common is not holy. Now since we know the opposite of holiness, what then is holiness?
1. Holiness is to be DIFFERENT from the rest.
2. Holiness means being DISTINCT from the rest.
3. Holiness means SEPARATED from the rest.
1 Peter 2:9 showed this truth: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”.
A relationship with God makes holiness possible. When we become God’s children by being born again, we become separated unto God and then holiness is possible. Are you struggling with holiness, but you say you have been saved? Are you sure you were saved? When Jesus Christ died and rose again, He put to death all obstacles to our holiness and holy living. Anyone who gives his or her life to Jesus is made Holy because God chooses him or her and then holiness becomes possible. You can say “NO” to all unrighteousness with the help of the Holy Spirit that now dwells in you. You can be saved right now and be made holy if you ask Jesus Christ to save you as you repent of your sins and ask Jesus into your life to be your Lord and Savior. Unless you are made Holy, you cannot see God or live holy.
Be ye holy!
