Evangelism: The Great Commission (I)
Evangelism: The Great Commission (I)
Text: Matthew 28:19-20, Romans 1:16, 1Corinth 1:17.
Memory Verse: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
The word ‘commission’ simply means an official assignment given to a group of people by their leader. Here we will be discussing about the Great Commission which Jesus Christ gave his disciples before going back to heaven. He gave them an assignment to do which we have called the Great Commission; this assignment has been passed down from generation to generation so it is very important.
When Jesus was about to ascend to heaven he spoke the words in Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
which we know as the Great Commission. It is the command to go into the nations of the earth and preach the gospel to them. The Great Commission should not be seen as a burden but should be done with joy as we share the good news of Jesus to the world. The Great Commission was given to us so that no one on earth would be left out in knowing about Jesus and how he came to the earth to save the people from their sins. The disciples have played their part in carrying out the Great Commission; now it is our turn to let others know about the love of God that came to the world through Jesus Christ John 3:16.
Action Point: The baton has been handed over to you and I, what would we do with our own evangelism?
