The Ten Commandments – The 5th Commandment
The Ten Commandments – The 5th Commandment
Text: Exodus 20:12-13, Deuteronomy 5:16-17.
M.V: Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.(NIV)
Honour thy father and thy mother Exodus 20:12: To honour simply means to respect and value someone. So this commandment being the fifth commandment tells us clearly that we should respect and value our father and mother so that we will live long. Also Ephesians 6:1-3, emphasizes the need for us as children to obey and honour our parents as this is the first commandment with a promise. The promise in this commandment is that it may be well with you and for long life on the earth. This commandment is very important because it is the first commandment that God gave with a promise. Other commandments before this either came with a strict warning or punishment; so let us make sure to take this commandment very seriously.
Meditation: Ephesians 6: 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
