Walking with God
Walking with God
Text: Genesis 5:21-24, 2Corinthians 6:16-18.
Memory verse: “So come out from among unbelievers and be separate,” says the Lord, “And do not touch what is unclean; and I will graciously receive you and welcome you [with favour]” 2Corinthians 6:17 (AMP)
Walking with God is the hallmark of any true believer. From the beginning of creation, God has always desired to have an unrestrained relationship with man, but we have remained distant from Him through our wanton desire for the glittering fruit of sin and the world.
Walking with God begins with a personal decision to consecrate and leave all to God as seen from the example of Enoch. See Genesis 5:24: And [in reverent fear and obedience] Enoch walked with God; and he was not [found among men], because God took him [away to be home with Him]. (AMP Version)
Note that the phrase “was not found among men”, meant that he was not preoccupied with ungodliness and worldly entanglements like the rest of the people in his generation. His relationship with God distinguished him from among the men of his day and this man spent a remarkable 300 years following God, showing how much God’s grace can sustain those who delight in Him.
This should tell us that God is still in the business of calling men to walk and follow Him intimately- Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. He wants our undivided attention and focus on Him as the centerpiece of our lives and daily living.
Christ’s earthly life shows us the perfect example of a man whose sole business on earth is staying in tune with the heavenly father- John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. Walking with God entails a life devoted to seeking God in prayers, the study of the word of God, and daily service to the kingdom. Through these channels, anyone can imbibe godly lifestyles and practice God’s divine will and purpose.
Food for thought: There has been no record of regret from anyone who walked with God wholeheartedly.
Meditation
1 I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Refrain:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
2 Thro’ this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee. [Refrain]
3 When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore. [Refrain]
