The Ten Commandments -The 3rd Commandment
The Ten Commandments -The 3rd Commandment
Memory Verse: “Do not misuse my name. I am the LORD your God, and I will punish anyone who misuses my name. ”Exodus 20: 7
Text: Exodus 20:7-11, Deuteronomy 5:11-15
Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain Exodus 20:7: How do you feel when someone just calls your name for no reason; and when you respond or answer, they tell you it is nothing important or that your name just slipped out of their mouths. Definitely, you will not feel good about it because they are calling you for fun. In the third commandment, God tells the Israelites not to take His name in vain i.e. call it carelessly or without respect. When we mention the name of God, we should bear in mind that we are calling the creator of the heavens and the earth therefore it must be done with utmost respect and reverence. Do not joke with His name, swear by His name or use it in false affirmations because He said in Exodus 20:7b that He will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain meaning that the person will definitely be punished.
Prayer: Lord help me to accord you the reverence you deserve as my father at all time. Amen.
