The burden of the Lord
The burden of the Lord
Zechariah 9:1 The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.
The burden of the Lord here translates to the Lord’s desires towards our world. He desires that the “eyes of all men may be toward Him”. There’s no way this can be fulfilled other than through the great commission. All the politics, philanthropy, and humanitarian efforts employed to help our world have shown little or no improvement in people’s lives because the gospel of the Lord is being omitted. It is only the gospel that carries with it a transforming power and the divine ability to regenerate and deliver our world, sadly, our world lacks divine representatives of the true gospel. The ones who appoint themselves as gospellers are sycophants while the ones who know and have experienced the gospel power are indolent and lukewarm. What a tragedy! Before you accuse the gospel sycophants of peddling errors and profaning the gospel message, ask yourself this truth: what have you, who know the truth, done to spread the truth and reconcile the world around you to the Lord?
The burden of the Lord cannot be borne upon unclean vessels neither can it be borne without the love of the Master- Isaiah 52:11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD. No filthiness of the heart nor the flesh must be found in those who have professed their love to Christ. There’s a duty of continuous sanctification of the heart to ensure our lives continue to bear the semblance of Christ before the Father as we offer our lives as living fragrance to His worship and service.
The burden of the Lord in prayers is another aspect to consider- Mark 14:37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? The Lord is seeking men who would bear the burden of bringing about the fulfillment of God’s prophecies and desires for the world of dying men, intercessors who will prevail in the place of prayer and answer the call of substantive gospel outreach to the world. True men of God are birthed in the place of prayer devotion and they continuously lay their all at His feet. Their life’s goal and ultimate desire is seeing Christ reign in this world and sinners come to the reality of the love of God- John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Lord, make me that man/woman!
