Never give in.
Never give in.
Jeremiah 35:6-10.
Key verse: verse 6 But they answered, “We will drink no wine, for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, ‘You shall not drink wine, neither you nor your sons forever.
In our world today, conformity is the norm. We see many people aligning to the subtle ideology and culture of the world without checking if it conforms to the scripture. Our text above pointed out how the house of the Rechabites declined the wine set before them by the prophet Jeremiah. The first thing to note here is the fact that it was not some random person who presented the object of temptation to them, rather, it was someone reputable and respected in the land. We should expect the same in our days that temptations could arise from people dear and respected, yea, from our spiritual leaders even- Matthew 10:36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
The children of Rechab had been instructed by their father not to drink wine, they kept his instructions and extended it to many generations after them. As Christians today, we are in the world but not of this world, let us be ready to boldly let the world know our stand by identifying with the instructions of our heavenly father. Jesus Christ, our perfect example was faced with a lot of temptations, stiff oppositions, and even good but ungodly suggestions throughout His ministry, but He never lost track of his mission because He kept His focus and consecration on God. Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. We can rely on His grace to see us through whatever the world throws at us.
Reflection: Our response to what the world throws at us is an opportunity to reflect Christ in all we do. May we be light to the people around us, Amen.
