In Spirit And Truth
John 4:19-24.
The above text describes the acceptable posture of our worship. It emanated from the discussion between Christ and the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. One of the oddities that Christ seems to correct in this passage is that of the traditions of men- John 4:20. We rely a lot on men and Christian leaders to tell us how to worship God rather than seeking Him with utmost wholeheartedness. We must understand that worship is not just about singing, dancing, and playing instruments. The scripture affirms that our very lives (spirit, soul, and body) must become our worship to God. The MSG version gives more light to this- “the time is coming, it has infact come, when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God”- John 4:23,24. The disposition of our hearts matters when we worship. We must always exhibit genuine and profound submission when we worship knowing fully well that “all things are naked (known) and opened” before Him (God) – Hebrew 4:13. Godly sincerity in worship is a must, it is what attracts God’s presence and delight whereas showboating and mere flawless physical performances displeases Him and repel His presence- Psalm 51:16,17 (MSG).
