A Model Christian
A Model Christian
Psalm 1:1-3,6.
A model Christian is an exemplary individual whose pattern of life can be followed- 1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. In the real sense of things, we were saved so that we can be a representation of Christ to the world of sinners. An online dictionary defines a Christian as an individual who seeks to live his or her life according to the principles and values taught by Jesus Christ. This is very true and completely sums up God’s expectations over our lives. We are expected to depict and reflect the nature of Christ imbued into us at the point of our redemption. Anything short of this is unacceptable before God and requires a sincere review of what we proclaim.
The grace of God provided to aid us is good enough to enable us to live our lives in line with God’s will. It covers every action of our lives (Psalm 1:1- walk, stand, sit), and also our mindset (Psalm 1:2- delight/thought, meditation) such that the end product yields recognizable fruitfulness (Psalm 1:3).
It is quite essential that we have a continuous and true personal testimony of our spiritual status as children of God, especially in this end-time with the proliferation of hypocrites and usurpers on the pulpit as well as the pews of church congregations. Our lives both publicly and privately must be in accordance to the laid down pattern of Christ- 1 Peter 2:21,22 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.
1 | O to be like Thee! blessed Redeemer; This is my constant longing and prayer; Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures, Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. |
O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art; Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness; Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart. | |
2 | O to be like Thee! full of compassion, Loving, forgiving, tender and kind, Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting, Seeking the wand’ring sinners to find. |
3 | O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit, Holy and harmless, patient and brave; Meekly enduring cruel reproaches, Willing to suffer, others to save. |
4 | O to be like Thee! Lord, I am coming, Now to receive th’ anointing divine; All that I am and have I am bringing; Lord, from this moment all shall be Thine. |
5 | O to be like Thee! While I am pleading Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love. Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling, Fit for a life which Thou wouldst approve. |
We must remain watchful and guard against any form of laxity and complacency as we journey further in our faith and in hope of our final salvation- 1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
