Wrongful leading through eyesight

It is a known fact that “not all that glitters are gold”. This statement attests to the fact that our mortal eyes can deceive us. Our eyesight without a thorough examination, readily makes us judge or arrive at a conclusion using a superficial impression. That is why “packaging” has become a top selling point for any interaction in our world today, be it in business, politics, or relationships. Sadly, it has become the bane of the Christian assembly as well. We depend heavily on showmanship and jamboree-like antics of wonderful glittering gatherings to attract and entertain the world rather than presenting the way of brokenness and godly sorrow that leads to Calvary.
Back in the text, Samson was a man with a lustful sight for women. He always exercised his free will for fleshly satisfaction to the detriment of his soul and the destruction of lives and valuable properties. it was this similar “seeing” that landed King David into adultery and murder in 2 Samuel 11:2. Another critical example is Achan in Judges 7:21: I saw among the goods we seized a nice robe from Babylon, two hundred silver pieces, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels. I wanted them, so I took them. They are hidden in the ground right in the middle of my tent with the silver underneath.
These examples received unsentimental punitive sanctions for their carelessness and believers today are not exempted from the wrath of God when they contravene the laws of God.
We must be wary of the things we see and feed into our minds lest they become a snare to us. Job 31:1(MSG) I made a solemn pact with myself never to undress a girl with my eyes. This version brings to mind the testimony of a minister of the gospel who for years has been undressing women in his mind wherever he sees them despite remaining relevant on the pulpit. This is why the work of heart sanctification and purity is important to prevent dastardly acts of “the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:15,16).
Our world is filled with diverse alluring and glamorous figures of nakedness and flashy possessions set up by the devil to hide the wretchedness of sinfulness, entrap the souls of men, and distract us from the reality of eternal life. We must make a pact with our eyes to decidedly look away from the world and plant our gaze on Christ alone- Psalms 57:7a .
