Thanksgiving (III) – Ungratefulness/Ingratitude
Text: 2Timothy 3: 1-5, Numbers 11: 4-6, Romans 1:21.
Memory Verse: “And Jesus answering said; were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.” Luke 17:17-18
The Bible tells us a lot about being thankful as well as being ungrateful. Ungratefulness/Ingratitude is the opposite of thanksgiving/gratitude so let us find out what exactly ingratitude is.
What is Ingratitude/Ungratefulness? : It is the absence of or lack of thankfulness. It is a sin with severe consequences. It is when we fail to acknowledge God as the source of all we are and what we have.
When we refuse to be thankful for what we have, we become arrogant and proud. We start taking for granted all that God has done for us and become our own gods. Apostle Paul asks us in 1Corinthians 4;7 if there is anything that we have that we have not received? So why do we boast as though we did not receive it. God does not like ingratitude because it leads to arrogance and a reprobate mind; Romans 1:24 so as children of God we should not have an ungrateful heart or mentality.
Conclusion: Being ungrateful is a sin which makes person to lose God’s blessing as seen in Luke 17: 11-19. Apart from losing God’s blessing, ingratitude makes a person lose favour with men and women. It can make God and man decide not to help a person again therefore as children of God we should always give thanks in every situation.
