Ye Have Dwelt Long Enough In This Mount
Ye Have Dwelt Long Enough In This Mount
Deuteronomy 1:6
“Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount” was God’s declaration to the children of Israel during their wilderness experience. They had journeyed for 40 years during which He had proved them, humbled them, and shown them the failings and frailties of their flesh- Deuteronomy 8:2. And now, He called them to a new commitment and consecration. He calls them to arise and march forward in their journey- Deuteronomy 1:7 Turn you, and take your journey. The Lord is also calling us today from the idleness of our unproductive religiosity and churchism. He is calling us to a new dawn of real spiritual encounters and intimate journey with Him.
Horeb was a place where the Israelites resided for a long time and it had some significance in their journey to the promised land, namely: it served as a place of satiety- Exodus 17:6; It was a place of restoration- Exodus 33:6; and it was a place of preparation- Deuteronomy 1:6,7. Whatever situation we are passing through, it is God’s way of getting us ready for what is ahead. Therefore, we must make diligent carefulness in seeking His face and waiting on Him until we perceive or hear Him speak for our next move.
This command required that an expected action be taken. It involves leaving a place of comfort and convenience to walk into the unknown, although He was not leading them without a vision because God had given them the promise of a glorious land of milk and honey-Deuteronomy 2:7; 1:19 and He was leading them toward the promise. God may give us a foresight into His desired destination for our lives but we must follow him intimately to get the diverse steps to reaching that destination. Today, the Spirit of God still speaks and directs men who would seek him diligently- Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Meditation
1. In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
God leads His dear children along;
Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet,
God leads His dear children along.
Refrain:
Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.
2. Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.
3. Though sorrows befall us and evils oppose,
God leads His dear children along;
Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
God leads His dear children along.
4. Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
God leads His dear children along;
Away up in glory, eternity’s day,
God leads His dear children along.
