Seeking The Lord Through Fasting
Seeking The Lord Through Fasting
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted …” Matt 4:1-2
Our dear Lord Jesus, who is our perfect example, at the outset of His glorious ministry did not just show us an example by praying, but he did show us he started what later became the greatest work known to mankind through fasting. The matter of fasting is certainly always excused on the ground of maintaining a good health, or the error of ‘we don’t need to fast for God to hear us’, yes, the latter is not untrue, but should we intend to live as Jesus lived, we must consciously practice fasting.
The truth is, fasting doesn’t compel God to approve an answer hastily on our request, but it helps subject the body during moments of consecration. If any Christian intends to journey long with God, he must be enrolled in the ministry of consecration. During consecration, the Spirit is most in charge, and the flesh is less in sight; if we can arise to the call of consecration, we will not only be able to parry temptations as they come but we will be able to subject the body for the Master’s will at all times.
Plainly, heaven needs men who shall be enrolled in the ministry of consecration- walking so often in the Spirit, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and all through the year. Apostle Paul also made similar plea to the Galatians brethren when he said, “…walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
