Navigating The Tide
Navigating The Tide
John 16:33; 14:27.
You need not be told about the situations that buffet us all over the world today- untold hardships, economic downturns and international financial crises, job losses, global health threats, wars, etc. All of these are a pointer to the time that we are- the end-time. Unfortunately, many are getting discouraged or perplexed, many are losing hope of life, and giving up their faith in God. We need steadfast hope for the perilous times that we are in, and if there was ever a time we need God, it is now.
Our text brings a reassuring comfort of God’s promise of peace during the storm hinged on the condition of being in Him- “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace”. “In me” here signifies our continuous relationship with Him. We must remain in Him to enjoy this promise- Isaiah 26:20 Go, my people! Enter your inner rooms! Close your doors behind you! Hide for a little while, until his angry judgment is over! We need to secure our lives firmly in Christ and rest upon His unchanging and unfailingly word to see us through times of trials, crises, and temptations.
How do we navigate these challenging times?
1. Deepen your relationship with God in prayer and the word.
2. Have continuous fellowship with men of like-precious faith.
3. keep busy with the work of evangelism.
4. Develop yourself with the changing scope of employment and business.
5. Embrace opportunities and be open to changing jobs and environments with the leading of the Holy Spirit.
6. Live an uncompromising life embedded and enabled by the grace of God.
In conclusion, the hymn”We have an Anchor” by Priscilla Owens sums up the totality of our hope and trust in God to see us through our trying moments.
“We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love”.
