Heroes of Faith : Father Abraham (II)
Heroes of Faith : Father Abraham
Text: Hebrews 11:1-40, Genesis 17:1-8, Genesis 21:1-7.
Memory Verse: “As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.” Genesis 17:4
After the first test, God decided to test Abraham again and this time it was a really strange and difficult one. Years after Isaac was born, God came again and spoke to Abraham in Genesis 22:2 telling him to sacrifice his only son Isaac on a mountain in Moriah. This of course did not make any sense to Abraham; but he did not stop to question God or ask him why. He simply obeyed though it was so painful; he got up early the next morning and took two servants with him and Isaac with some wood for the burnt offering. He trusted God so much that even if Isaac died that God would be able to raise him back to life. Don’t forget that the devil brought many thoughts to Abraham’s mind when he was going to the mountain; thoughts like “what would I tell my wife when I get home later or how would she take the news that her only child is dead”. None of these thoughts brought by the devil made Abraham doubt God, he totally believed that God will keep his promise; God kept his promise just as Abraham was about to kill Isaac, an angel spoke from heaven and told him not to kill his only son. The angel said that now Abraham truly feared and obeyed God by not withholding anything from him including his only son; Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in a thicket (bush) and he sacrificed the ram instead of Isaac; God was very pleased with Abraham. We can say with assurance that Abraham also passed his second test excellently! Oh God help us have such great faith in you, Amen.`
Prayer: God, Help me never to doubt you at anytime. Help me faith!, Help thou my unbelief
