Jesus In The Boat

Mark 4:39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

The occurrence documented in Mark 4:35-41 from where the key verse above is taken teaches us on the importance of God’s presence in the circumstances of our lives. The first key lesson is from verse 35, “He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”. It was at the instance of Christ’s command that they went on this journey signifying that they were well within the will of the master. We learn that we can still have stormy situations despite living in God’s will and purpose. Our comfort and hope lies only in the fact that he has ordered our ways and He promises to always abide with us. Exodus 3:12 & Jeremiah 20:11. So He said, “I will certainly be with you… But the Lord is with me as a mighty, awesome One.

Another instance of a stormy situation is recorded in Mark 6:46-51. There was a great help available for the disciples but they didn’t recognize it because Jesus was not physically present with them. They tried to help themselves brave the storm with the knowledge from their fishing days, but all was futile. Verse 48 “Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. How we spend our energy in futility trying to find man-made solutions to the challenges of life without due recourse to the master of the storm and author of our deliverance. We need to cry out to God for help over our situations- I Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

We do ourselves a whole lot of good by remaining in the will and righteousness of God and living by the word of God as a guarantee of God’s presence and power to see us through every difficulty. The WORD of God is ever “Yes and Amen”. 

Meditation: I need the word to dwell richly in me, performing Its transformative and enlightening purpose. The name of Jesus is also able to save in an instant. When the storm rises, the name is a strong tower I need to run into to be saved.

1 Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o’ershadowed with blackness,
No shelter or help is nigh;
Carest thou not that we perish?”
How canst thou lie asleep,
When each moment so madly is threat’ning
A grave in the angry deep?

Refrain:
The winds and the waves shall obey thy will.
“Peace, be still!”
Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea,
Or struggles or evil, whatever it be,
No water can swallow the ship where lies
the Master of ocean and earth and skies:
They all shall sweetly obey thy will.

They all shall sweetly obey thy will.
“Peace, peace, be still!”

2 Master, with anguish of spirit
I bow in my grief today;
The depths of my sad heart are troubled,
Oh, waken and save, I pray;
Torrents of sin and of anguish
Sweep o’er my sinking soul!
And I perish! I perish, dear Master:
Oh, hasten and take control. [Refrain]

3 Master, the terror is over,
The elements sweetly rest;
Earth’s sun in the calm lake is mirrored,
And heaven’s within my breast.
Linger, O blessed Redeemer,
Leave me alone no more;
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor,
And rest on the blissful shore. [Refrain]
