Oh That Men Would Praise The Lord

“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8

The great warrior, David, did fight many battles in his lifetime, and he understand the tiny line between life and death, how in a split-second, a once boisterous life can be put to an end through a sword. On some occasions, he would infact had been dead on the battle front and might had run into the enemy’s ambush, yet, consistently this man acknowledged the Lord’s divine protection and guidance and on one occasion exclaimed that “Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth”.

Relatively, as Christian soldiers, the Lord Has for us fought many battles on our behalf and the attendant victory is all we see, He, of all His great bounties, bestowed upon us the greatest blessing- salvation, and redeemed us from eternal damnation, in place of gloom, he promised glory, our arch-foe daily desires to sift us as wheat but reassuringly we are assured by His blessed promise that He is praying for us. Much immortal favour has this great God bestowed that made the Psalmist declared as with a shout that “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!”

How often do you wait to thank God for the victory he has given you over the power of darkness? How often do you appreciate Him for the greatest gift of redemption, healing, restoration, and many spiritual blessings he has bestowed? How often do you thank Him for the physical manifestation of His great powers in your finances, family, health and the hope of a better tomorrow? Even in any strait, there is hope of relief. How often do you thank God?

The subject of thanksgiving to God is so under-rehearsed and it is one of the greatest keys and a privilege to attain other privileges. You could see the Psalmist almost literally crying and saying Oh that men are wise, Oh that we will take a week pause, or more and say nothing but thank you. He must have seen a great mystery on praise that precipitated his exclamation!

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
