When Joseph said “No”

When Joseph said “No”

Text: Genesis 39:7-20, Psalm 105:16-21

When Potiphar’s wife tried to make Joseph sin against God, he objected.

Even though he respected her as the wife of his master, he feared God and was determined not to offend Him. When she grabbed him by the clothes, he left the clothes and ran away.

His refusal to sin against God got him into trouble because she lied against him and the master sacked him from his job and threw him into prison. They had chains on his feet and hurt him with fetters as though he was a criminal. God seemed far away and did not come to prove that he was innocent.

He allowed Joseph to be thrown into prison even though He knew Joseph was innocent but there was glory ahead. Sometimes saying ‘no’ to sin can make people reject you and sometimes even harm you but like Joseph, you must know that God will take care of the situation and promote you if you wait patiently.

Have you been lied against or rejected for saying ‘no’ to sin? Don’t worry, God will soon promote you like He promoted Joseph in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, when I am tempted to go against your will even in the face of persecution, help me to remember that you are faithful to deliver me and you will reward me if I do what is right.
