Walking in His steps

Walking in His steps

Key verse: 1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.

While every child grows, there is always an innate desire to do things similar to how they’ve seen their parents do. They tend to walk like them, talk like them, behave like them, and even love the things they love and hate what their parents hate. This child-parent relationship also applies to our walking with Christ. He has birthed us into His kingdom, nurturing us with all the needed grace and the promise of His presence. One of the things He expects back from us is that we walk according to the trail He had plotted for us. Unfortunately, this is not usually the case as “Christians” want to enjoy the best of both worlds. They desire to receive the goodies of God’s kingdom, meanwhile, they pine away their heart to the world and its pleasures- Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? We must stop our consumer habits of Christianity and seek after the very essence of our salvation to be able to truly walk the path that the Saviour laid out for us.

Christ’s earthly life is a perfect example laid down and carefully curated by the Holy Spirit for us to read, understand, and pray to receive the grace needed to follow His pattern. The centrality of the scriptures is Christ and we would only become acceptable to God if our lives and duties are Christ-like. This is the very reason why the first believers were called ‘Christians’- Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. They exhibited traits that made the people recognize that they were Christ-people and they named them as such. We cannot afford to be misidentified and mislabeled as renegades of grace as this would only push people further into their sins rather than closer to the cross. We must be intentional in all our dealings and give off scents and sounds that exude Christlikeness.

Walking in the steps of Jesus includes walking in His sufferings, in His blamelessness, walking in His silence, walking in His contentment, and His servanthood. In His sufferings, we accept the repercussions of our faith through persecutions, trials, denials, and demotions with joy- 1 Thessalonians 1:6. We learn His silence in the face of intense provocations- Luke 20:20,21; His contentment was unassuming and godly- John 4:34; and He exhibited unparalleled humble servanthood – Luke 22:27.

While passing through this world of sin by Baylus B. McKinney.

While passing through this world of sin,

And others your life shall view,

Be clean and pure without, within,

Let others see Jesus in you.

Refrain:

Let others see Jesus in you, (2x)

Keep telling the story,

Be faithful and true,

Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life’s a book before their eyes,

They’re reading it through and through;

Say, does it point them to the skies?

Do others see Jesus in you?

What joy ’twill be at set of sun,

In mansions beyond the blue,

To find some souls that you have won;

Let others see Jesus in you.

Then live for Christ both day and night,

Be faithful, be brave and true,

And lead the lost to life and light;

Let others see Jesus in you.
