Pillar or caterpillar

Pillar or caterpillar

Philippians 1:15-17 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel.

The concept of pillars and caterpillars refers to our contribution to the work of God and the manner we influence people toward or against God. There are many today who have made themselves terrors and opposers of the true gospel of Christ and of the true ministers of God because of their selfish ambition of occupying Iofty positions in the Congregation- 3 John 1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not. This man Diotrephes decided to oppose the word of God simply because his position was not acknowledged. This is also a warning for the church to only elect into a position of leadership men whose faith and interest in the gospel are genuine and whose hearts are pliable by the Holy Spirit, or else they would become portals of hindrance to the work of God.

Worst still, some others are perpetual cankers that gradually and stealthily seek to destroy the Church through wanton gossip, rumor, and incitement of people against leadership and the truth. These set of people are caterpillars and they are in the direct line of the judgment of God if they don’t repent- 1 Timothy 1:19-20 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

On the contrary, some possess the attribute of constantly aiming for the exaltation of God’s glory. Their hearts are submissive to the Holy Spirit and they exhibit obedience to authorities in Christ- 1 Corinthians 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

We must always exhibit progressive interactions with the people of God and be persons who seek to promote the agenda of God’s Kingdom on earth.

MEDITATIONS: Does your speech, person, and disposition portray you as a pillar or caterpillar?

1 While passing through this world of sin,
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within,
Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

2 Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it through and through;
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?

[Chorus]

3 What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
In mansions beyond the blue,
To find some souls that you have won;
Let others see Jesus in you.

[Chorus]

4 Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave, and true,
And lead the lost to life and light;
Let others see Jesus in you.

[Chorus]
