Is the Word of God Dwelling in You Richly?

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col. 3: 16

From our text today we could see the scripture admonishing us that the word of God should dwell in us, not sparingly but rather richly, this means even though we may have several things that dwell in us such as our intellect, business, education, religion, entertainment, etc but in all of these, one thing must dwell far more richly than all of them, and that is the word of God. When the word of God dwells richly in a man it becomes the highest content and consideration in such a life, even though such a man has many other things that dwell in them, the word of God should supersede all of them in priority, value, and purpose.

God has a reason why he wanted the word of God to dwell in us more than other words, he knows that the more a word dwells in a man, the more the word begins to form an opinion and belief in such a life. Today, the media, internet, etc keep pushing out several words which they want to dwell more richly in man than the word of God. Today, the world news, movies, sport, and entertainment dwell richly in many than the word of God. Can you confirm in your heart what dwells in you richly? What dwells in you richly becomes your heart cravings, what dwells in your heart richly becomes your pursuit and overall defines your existence.

Several believers enrich their hearts richly with sport, entertainment, and football far more than the word of God, such a man should not be surprised when he is easily overcome by sin, unbelief, and the flesh because what dwells in you richly will determine the point of your interest and exposures. While we know there are other issues of life we must understand and study, however, the word of God must have an unequal rival in our hearts.

Jesus allowed the word of God to dwell in Him richly and therefore he could say, “for the prince of this world cometh and hath nothing in me”. And when he was tempted in Matt. 4: 1-11, he said “Men shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” thereby placing the word of God above the necessary daily food. Just in the same way, all the nutrients in food help in developing the body, in the same way, every word of God helps in developing the saint’s spiritual life and that is why it must dwell richly for optimal nourishment.

Today are you richly nourished by the word of God? If not it may be that you have not opened your heart to read, meditate, study, and embraced the word of God. If you want your growth to be optimal, therefore ensure you are richly filled with the word of God.
