Delivered to serve
Delivered to serve
Luke 1:74-75 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
There’s a saying that goes: “I am a fool for Christ, whose fool are you?”. This refers to the level of absolute surrendedness to Christ’s service and love which in the eyes of men might look senseless, but we are sure it is the best form of life that any mortal can be privileged to have. Many reckon themselves delivered from the enemy’s grasp to be free from any responsibility and to enjoy being called Christians without engaging in any of God’s work and purpose. Nay, “we do not well” if this is our state. The call of salvation is to serve and be chosen vessels to carry out the most glorious service of the gospel and to work tirelessly for the salvation of others- 2 Corinthians 5:17-19. Reaching the cross and being born again is phenomenal and profitable, but, there’s a long walk after the cross which involves a lot of duties and responsibilities as the grace of God enables- 1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. A good example is that of the Samaritan woman in John 4. She could have continued to sit there with Christ, but, at the slightest confirmation of Christ as the Messiah and receipt of her salvation, she eagerly ran to call others to this light- John 4:28-29 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
Our response to the work must be with sincere earnestness and out of profound love of the Master. The place of love cannot be overemphasized as it must consistently remain the driving force behind our zeal, else, our sacrifice and labors would be accounted as valueless when the Lord weighs us in His bespoke balances- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.
It is also important that we are mindful of our standing before God in holiness and righteousness as we perform divinely ordained tasks. These are the gate-pass to His acceptance and commendation. Any good deed done devoid of righteousness is for mere moral justification and not for godliness. Bad enough, the Devil could hijack it to perpetuate his evil intention although it might still appear good on the surface- 1 Corinthians 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
